Look Up is a high-impact series of temporary artistic interventions in key public locations across Portsmouth, produced by ArtReach as part of Journeys Festival International, 19th-28th October 2018. This year, we are inviting an artist working with video or digital art to exhibit on screens across the city, celebrating migration and cultural sharing & diversity.
Journeys Festival International aims to highlight the extraordinary and powerful artwork, music, creativity, culture and experiences that refugee artists bring to the UK. It works across a wide range of creative media and disciplines and aims to bring the exceptional talent of local, national and international refugee artists into the public eye.
The opportunity includes: Inclusive fee of £1,300 offered. The option to engage in a part-time 6-week residency at Aspex Gallery in their Artists Studio from September 2018. The opportunity to engage with the Asylum seeker & Refugee community in Portsmouth.
To apply you must fit the following criteria: You are an artist from the refugee or asylum seeker community and/or your work is linked to the refugee experience and/or you have experience of working with diverse communities.
Proposals may be for new or existing video works, and may include short films, performance documentation (with the option to create performative interventions in Portsmouth), animation and digital artworks. We are particularly keen to showcase work engaging with the themes from a fun and celebratory angle. Videos should not require sound.
Applications may be from artists based anywhere in the world. We particularly welcome applications from Hampshire based artists.
Your work can be successfully disseminated to large scale screens whilst retaining quality, clarity & impact.
To apply please submit the following by email:
– A short proposal (1 side of A4 maximum) detailing how you would approach the project and how you fulfil the criteria.
– Your artist’s CV (if available).
