Final preparations for Platforma Festival 2015
1st November 2015

The third Platforma Festival will be getting under way from 2 November, with a launch party at LCB Depot for the Journeys Extra programme run by ArtReach and Leicester City of Sanctuary. The art exhibitions are being set up and the participatory programme, Photoworks (pictured) exploring self-portraiture and identity, led by Anna Sherbany with local people from refugee backgrounds, is well underway.

Another participatory element to the Festival will see students from De Montfort University perform alongside Natasha Davis on 4th November as part of Internal Terrains. They have already completed four workshop sessions with Natasha and will be working hard this week ahead of the performance.

Speakers and workshop leaders for our 2-day Platforma Conference (5-6 November) will be getting prepared, and we are looking forward to welcoming delegates and contributors from across the UK and countries including Germany and Australia. Platforma International (4 November) will be a great chance to explore the potential for new collaborations, and the whole Festival is an opportunity for networking and sharing practice.

We also have a great programme of theatre: The Edge by Transport Theatre (5 November at the Y Theatre) and two plays Upstairs At The Western: Nine Lives by Zodwa Nyoni (6 November) and Sanctum by Quite Right Theatre (7 November). Plus, there are screenings at Phoenix cinema (6 November) and Virtual Migrants present: Continent Chop Chop at Highfields Centre (7 November).

If you aren’t able to join us in Leicester we will be publishing articles on this site reports in the following weeks to capture some of the discussions. And make sure you follow us on social media and sign up to our email newsletter for updates.
