Monica Ross – Act 37 Counterpoint
20th May 2015
Monica Ross

Anniversary—an act of memory was a series of solo, collective and multi-lingual recitations from memory of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, led by the artist Monica Ross. Beginning with a solo recitation at the British Library, London 7 December 2008 to mark the 60th Anniversary of the UDHR, the artist’s aim was to realise a minimum of 60 memorised recitations alone and with others.

Following Monica Ross’s death in 2013, the series of performances have now been made available on YouTube. Act 37 took place in London in 2011 as part of the first Platforma Festival, alongside Co-Recitors Pat Boadu-Darko, Wuba Baarez, Ezechias Ngendahayo, Lul Seyoum and Ali Abdolrezaei (pictured, above, with Monica Ross).
