ISIS Arts presents: Common Ground artist film programme, curated by Juan delGado as part of Platforma Festival 2017

Vane, First Floor, Commercial Union House, 39 Pilgrim St, Newcastle upon Tyne NE1 6QE

Working across Europe, Juan delGado has focused his recent practice on gathering and presenting stories from newly-arrived communities.

For Common Ground, he has curated a short artist moving image programme by and about refugees and migrants. From the every day to the cataclysmic, the films and animations are tender, funny and heart rending.

The programme centres on Juan’s work Altered Landscapes – an immersive multimedia installation that traces a personal narrative through the scarred vistas of Europe in the midst of the largest mass migration in living memory. Through the use of video, photography, light and sound, Altered Landscapes brings the viewer on a journey; an intimate account of the experience of traveling through an unfamiliar landscape echoing the real life experience of tens of thousands of refugees.

“Whether the camera travels down a dark road or an insect emerges from its chrysalis, it’s captivating stuff…. it’s a stunning piece of film making.”
Tabish Khan, Londonist

Vane will feature artist moving image work by Ayman Nahle, Amer Barzawi, Syrialism, Basel Shehadi, Wael Toubaji, Sarah Zeryab alongside prints by Mohammad Barrangi and an installation by Bryan Weston Mucheriwa.
