Creative Coffee Shop Conversation
In partnership with Creative Coffee
Wednesday 21st June, 10am – 12noon
Lightbox Gallery, LCB Depot, Rutland Street, Leicester LE1 1RE
FREE, plus complimentary coffee and cake
Journeys Festival International invites you to share your thoughts and network over a free coffee and slice of cake.
The event will take place in the Lightbox Gallery at LCB Depot, with the Migration Museum’s Call Me by My Name pop up exhibition giving a context for the discussion.
The discussion will explore Documenting Refuge and Asylum, understanding the impact and benefits art and creativity can have on those who have had traumatic experiences.
Sue McAlpine, from the Migration Museum, and Mani Darjazi, a refugee artist who was in the ‘Jungle’ will both be guest speakers. The discussion will be chaired by Journeys Festival International’s very own Executive Producer Nicola Middler.
The Call Me by My Name exhibition features a replica refugee shelter, similar to those made to house refugees in the Calais ‘Jungle.’ Alongside this, striking photographs will give an insight into life in the refugee camp and the space will immerse you in the personal stories of those whose journeys led them to Calais.
Looking forward to seeing you there!
