Liverpool Welcomes – Arts event
Bluecoat, School Lane, Liverpool, Merseyside L1 3BX
Liverpool Welcomes are holding their second event in support of the current refugee crisis, this time looking to bring asylum seekers and the wider Merseyside community together as one.
At the Bluecoat in Liverpool, there will be a whole day full of fun arts & music activities open to ANYONE looking to bring the city’s public together with asylum seekers, the opportunity to hear from refugees themselves.
“The current refugee crisis is now more relevant than ever: after the recent attacks, there’s a misplaced global backlash against refugees, and increasing security concerns.” said Juliana Landim from Liverpool Welcomes. Whether you’re a refugees/asylum seeker or not, there will be something for you; and it’s all free of charge, thanks to all the facilitators who donated their time and skills, as well as the historic Bluecoat, who generously offered all the spaces utilised for a very reduced rate”
There will be drumming, singing, dancing, yoga and mindfulness as well as a Market Place where people can find out how to help, facts and figures; a “Living Library” where attendees can ask questions directly to migrants; a panel discussion with experts on “What is a ‘Liverpool Welcome’ and how we can sustain it?” and to finishing the day there will be live music performances by Science of the Lamps as well as a candle lit vigil.
