Compass Collective joins Leeds Playhouse and the British Red Cross to deliver an exciting new project. Over the course of a month, Compass will bring two groups of young people seeking sanctuary together in Leeds to develop a dramatic audio piece.
The programme, commissioned in partnership with Counterpoints Arts for Platforma 6 will focus on blending creative writing with music and rap to devise an original recorded audio piece that the young people will develop and perform.
The project will explore leaving voice messages to those most important to you.
Following the young people’s lead, Compass will explore the themes most important to these two groups, using music and the spoken word to create a safe space for the young people to express themselves.
Compass Collective is a non-profit theatre company working with people seeking sanctuary. We deliver theatre projects, arts-based professional development programmes, and one-off drama workshops. The aim of our work is to strengthen communities, build resilience and help people seeking sanctuary integrate into the UK.
Leeds Playhouse has been a Theatre of Sanctuary since 2014. They work closely with refugee organisations and with volunteers from the refugee and asylum seeker community in Leeds to offer a range of creative and practical projects, and we extend a warm welcome to the Playhouse community. We have a dedicated programme of work during Refugee Week consisting of seminars, performances and workshops and throughout the year we offer a number of tailored and bespoke projects.
