Where We Are Now
SPACE, 129-131 Mare St, Hackney, London E8 3RH
Where We Are Now by Kate Stanworth will be opening at SPACE, London, at 6.30pm on the 6th of September 2017. It is the culmination of a series of trips to Italy, Austria and Germany in which she photographed individuals who left their homes in Africa and the Middle East to start new lives in Europe.
The series not only explores the physical places that my protagonists now find themselves in, but also a sense of psychological space – exploring the loss and nostalgia as they look back at the past, and the search for narratives that help them find purpose in disorienting times.
This exhibition was created as part of the Arts and Humanities Research Council-Funded Network: ‘Responding to Crisis: Forced Migration and the Humanities in the Twenty-First Century’ with the support of Royal Holloway University, Keele University and L’Orientale
